What kind of Egyptian Dance student are you? I mean, for real.
Also, does it matter? (spoiler alert #1: it does)
In all these years of career in Egyptian Dance - more than 20 years of non-stop performing, teaching, lecturing, judging, and learning from every front, first in Egypt and then around the World - I´ve noticed there are different kinds of students.
I´ve also noticed how those different kinds of students behave and how their attitude shapes their experience - allowing for their growth or sabotaging it.
In this Blog/Podcast post, I´m sharing the different kinds of students I´ve observed and learned to love - unconditionally. Listen to it. Be honest about it. What kind of student are you?
And, above all, consider becoming the kind of student who´s actually benefiting from Egyptian Dance and evolving. Life is too short for pettiness and too important for you to waste it.
In this photo, I´m standing with one of my beloved teachers, the iconic Souhair Zaki.
I remember how she impacted my dance and life, changing it forever, and I also remember the humbleness and effort it took to assimilate and use everything she taught me.
That was the kind of student I wanted to be and the kind of person I wished to become - one who had her heart on her hands; her mind opened; and a true willingness to do the work, challenge myself, and surpass my limits.
I hope you, too, will become that student. And person. (spoiler alert #2: yes, you can)
