"Self-Esteem is always, and unconditionally, NOW. There´s no waiting to make it happen, no condition without which I cannot esteem/love myself, no procrastination of my self-acceptance.
It´s the awareness of your value as a human being, independently of your personal characteristics and current circumstances.
There´s always something - in ourselves, in our lives - we believe could be better. Right? We live in a constant state of dissatisfaction and we´re sold the idea that our happiness is a purchase away, a step ahead, in another place, in different relationships, careers, lives. It seems nothing is as good as it gets, ever.
The lack of contentment with WHAT IS, RIGHT NOW, is, in fact, one of the biggest invisible devils of our time (but we´ll get there in another chapter of this handbook). This is why is so important to awaken and claim our power to feel good, be grateful, and rejoice with who we are and what we have. Right now, unconditionally. If improvements must be made, and improvements may be required, we´ll deal with them later.
For now, let´s breathe for a minute. Close your eyes and focus on your breath - inhaling and exhaling; don´t rush. Take your time - your time is yours to take. And enjoy.
Stay there for a while. Then, say it out loud: THANK YOU for EVERYTHING. I LOVE MYSELF JUST AS I AM, not smarter, not kinder, not prettier, no skinnier, not more successful, not more educated, not more (fill the blank with your ideal quality of choice). Just the way I am.
A sense of peace falls upon you when you return home - yourself - and instead of trying to clean and fix everything, you sit at your table and feast on your banquet. As imperfect as it may be. Savor it.
